(NASDAQ: GRMN), the global leader in satellite navigation, today announced the unveiling of Vector – a high-precision pedal based power meter – designed for cyclists, by cyclists. Vector is the lightest weight direct measurement power meter on the market, and designed for quick installation, portability, and ease-of-use. Taking only minutes to install, Vector provides accurate and reliable power data and uniquely measures and presents right and left leg power balance to ANT+™ compatible head units.

Vector was announced in preparation for a world unveiling tour beginning at Australia’s Ausbike, then climbing to Germany’s Eurobike, and finally sprinting to Las Vegas’ Interbike where it will be prominently displayed at Garmin booths in each location.

“We are excitedto get this innovative product into your hands – and under your feet,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales. “From picking it up at your local bike shop and installing at home in minutes, to giving you accurate and reliable total and independent leg power measurements, Vector becomes one of the most desirable solutions in the cycling market. It’s similar to going from 2D to 3D,” Bartel continued. “There’s a richness in data and capabilities that come from the combination of our location of measurement – the pedals – and Vector’s sensor design.”

Quick and easy: For many cycling enthusiasts, purchasing a power meter is an intimidating and potentially complicated process, often involving mechanical tradeoffs for their bikes. Vector simplifies the decisions and the process. Cyclists can now walk into their local bike shop, walk out with a Vector power meter in hand, and install it themselves in minutes. There’s no need for a custom order process, no need for a mechanic, and no downtime while their bike is in the shop. With integrated cadence measurement, there are no external sensors to install, and all calibration is performed before the Vector power meter hits the store shelves. Vector’s easy-to-install design makes it easy to swap between bikes, and easy to take to out-of-town events when renting or borrowing a bike. Vector’s light weight and durable injected carbon fiber pedals are LOOK Keo compatible, and its ANT+ wireless pedal pod transmitters fit most major cranksets. Vector has also been designed to be easy to update as software enhancements are made, thanks to its ANT+ wireless technology. To see Vector in action, go to www.garmin.com/Vector.

Wizardry behind the watts: Vector works by measuring the normal deflection in the pedal spindle as you pedal, throughout your entire pedal stroke. By comparing the measured deflection to a factory-calibrated deflection caused by a known load, Vector can determine how much force you’re applying to the pedal. With force measurements, the cadence measurements from Vector’s integrated accelerometers, and time, Vector accurately calculates watts. The force sensors are permanently and securely sealed within the pedal spindle, one of the most robust components on the bike.

Get an ‘Edge’ on the competition: For users already using a Garmin Edge® 800 or Edge 500 cycling computer, adding a Vector power meter will take their training to the next level. Not only will the Edge display total power, left and right leg power, and cadence, it will now also display in real-time the widely adopted power metrics from TrainingPeaks™: Normalized Power (NP ™), Intensity Factor (IF ™) and Training Stress Score (TSS ™). The Edge 800 adds a new interval summary page to enhance the power-based training experience.

“Vector’s easy-to-own design has the potential to make power-based training more accessible and usable by a broader range of athletes,” said Hunter Allen, founder of Peaks Coaching Group and widely regarded as a leading expert in training with a power meter. “In addition, by integrating the TrainingPeaks metrics of Normalized Power, Intensity Factor and Training Stress Score directly into the Edge head units for real-time display, Garmin continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to advancing power-based cycling tools.”

Complete the suite: For post-ride analysis, mapping, course and workout creating and detailed power metrics, Garmin Connect™ is a tool for every level cyclist. With over 1 billion miles logged, users will never be stuck without a new route to explore. At Garmin Connect, cyclists can explore other user’s workouts and send them directly to compatible Garmin fitness products to follow. Having all of their cycling electronics and analysis from one brand means they can trust the equipment, the user experience and the support.

Vector will be available in March 2012 and will have a suggested retail price of $1,499.99.

Seoul/ August 15, 2011 - Garmin Corporation, a unit of Garmin Ltd., the global leader in satellite navigation, today announced the aerodynamic Edge 500, an evolutionary leap in cycling technology. Weighing a mere 2 ounces, Edge 500 features a high-sensitivity GPS receiver, requires no calibration, can be switched quickly and easily between bicycles and connects wirelessly with ANT+™ compatible third-party power meters.

“Using feedback from the best focus group imaginable – the Pro Tour cyclists of Team Garmin-Cervelo, we’ve developed a lightweight cycling computer that’s powerful enough for the pros yet simple enough for beginners,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales. “Sitting sleek and snug on a redesigned handlebar mount, Edge 500 streamlines your cycling statistics for a fraction of the cost of comparable head units.”

Designed for performance cyclists, the GPS-enabled Edge 500 tracks speed, distance, time, GPS position, elevation, calories burned, climb and descent. For extra-precise climb and descent data, Edge 500 incorporates a barometric altimeter to pinpoint changes in elevation. Combining more data than ever into one device, Edge 500 syncs wirelessly through ANT+™ technology with compatible third-party power meters. Edge 500 also pairs wirelessly with Garmin speed/ cadence sensors and features advanced heart rate-based calorie computation when used with a Garmin heart rate monitor. Boasting a high-sensitivity GPS receiver with HotFixTM that quickly acquires and maintains satellite reception, the Edge 500 also displays temperature readings, changes time zones automatically and alerts riders if they’re moving but the timer is not running. With up to 18 hours of battery life, Edge 500 features a low-profile, quarter-turn mount that fits easily on the stem or handlebars.

“Since becoming our title sponsor, Garmin has guaranteed that we have the best technology available,” said Team Garmin’s Christian Vande Velde, fresh off the top team at the Tour de France. “At training camp we made requests: we wanted a smaller device with a big screen, easy-to-use buttons and sturdier mount. Garmin listened. The Edge 500 reflects our requests and then some, adding vertical speed, accurate calories and temperature readings.”

Edge 500 provides unparalleled data and accuracy in a sport where every ounce and second counts. It’s the perfect tool for training and racing for every facet of the sport – time trials, climbing, all-out sprints and breakaways. And downloading data to Garmin Connect helps us replay the ride time and again and study the statistics, looking for any room for improvement for the next day. It also allows our fans and the media access to the riders’ data for any given day.

When paired with a Garmin heart rate monitor, Edge 500 tracks the micro changes in a user’s heart rate and uses that detailed information to better calculate the number of calories burned. In developing Edge 500 and its heart rate-based calorie computation, Garmin worked with Firstbeat Technologies Ltd., a technology company based in Finland. Firstbeat is an industry leader in heart rate analysis, specializing in developing user-centered software solutions for heart beat signal analysis in exercise and sports, weight management, and stress monitoring applications.

Cyclists can track Team Garmin’s featured rides – or download, analyze and share rides of their own - by participating in Garmin Connect, an online community that brings together millions of activities around the world. Garmin Connect displays metrics such as time, distance, speed, elevation and heart rate. This information is shown through charts, illustrations, reports and a variety of map representations including street, photo, topographic, and elevation maps as well as the popular Google Earth application. Garmin Connect users can search for activities in their area and try the activities for themselves by uploading the data to Garmin devices, which will then guide the way.

Edge 500 is the latest breakthrough from Garmin, which has spent 20 years using technology and innovation to enhance users’ lives, making Garmin a household name in the automotive, aviation, marine, wireless, outdoor and fitness industries.

Singapore/ July 25, 2011 - Garmin Corporation, a unit of Garmin Ltd., the global leader in satellite navigation, today announced The Tour de France ended Sunday for Team Garmin-Cervelo just as it began - with the argyle armada atop the podium. In a three-week race that saw Team Garmin achieve its first of many objectives on the second day by winning the Stage 2 Team Time Trial, their best Tour by far wrapped up on the Champs Elysees when they accepted the award for being the best overall team. Even Dave Zabriskie, who was so instrumental in the Team Time Trail and setting the pace in the Tour's early days, was there in spirit after crashing out with a broken wrist. While our own Captain America recovers back home, the team carried a cardboard cut-out of DZ (far right) up on stage to round out the roster (and he even had the same sly smile).

Thanks to impressive showings in Saturday's individual time trial, Tom Danielson finished an amazing ninth overall in the general classification in his debut, and fellow GC riders Christian Vande Velde and Ryder Hesjedal secured three Garmin spots in the Tour's top 18. These accomplishments added to an already impressive list that included world champion Thor Hushovd spending a week in the leader's yellow jersey, and four stage victories - the Team Time Trail, Thor's two wins in the mountains and American sprinter Tyler Farrar's emotional triumph on the Fourth of July.
